About Fryar's Transmission

In the heart of Hot Springs, Arkansas, there's a legacy that spans generations, a story of dedication and expertise that has become synonymous with quality in the transmission repair industry. Welcome to Fryar's Transmission, where excellence runs through the veins of the Fryar family.

Our Rich Heritage

Fryar's Transmission owes its inception to the vision of Weldon Fryar, Matt's great-grandfather, who established the family shop in 1965 as "Fryar's Garage." Initially a general repair facility, Weldon's unwavering commitment to mastering the art of transmission repair led to the birth of Fryar's Transmission.

Under Weldon's skilled guidance, Fryar's quickly became a beacon of transmission excellence in the area. The transition to specialization marked the beginning of a storied journey that continues to this day.

A Family Affair

Family has always been the cornerstone of Fryar's Transmission. Weldon's wife, Faye, served as the ever-efficient secretary, while their three sons, David, Mike, and James, all lent their expertise to the shop's success.

With Weldon's retirement, the reins were passed to David Fryar and his wife Liz, Matt's grandparents. They tirelessly managed the shop until a decade ago when the responsibility fell into the capable hands of Matt, the next in line to carry the torch.

Matt's childhood was intertwined with the shop's daily operations, as he lived right across the street. He fondly recalls, "From the time I was a little kid, I've spent basically my whole life here, anytime I wasn't in school. I grew up in the shop and I've been here ever since."

Evolution and Growth

While Fryar's Transmission began as a family-driven enterprise, over time, the family circle expanded to include a dedicated team of professionals. Today, a staff of seven, led by Matt, works together seamlessly. David Fryar, now in his 70s, still offers his support, picking up parts and assisting with errands, although he has retired from full-time work.

Our modern facility spans 4,500 square feet, featuring six bays, a dedicated rebuilding room, and a well-stocked parts room. While we proudly specialize in transmissions, computer programming and vehicle-specific tuning. We also handle related services like transfer cases, differentials, u-joints, mounts, and electrical work. We believe in going the extra mile to ensure our customers' complete satisfaction.
